Fascinated by fashion while working in her high school’s costume department, Rebecca Minkoff moved to New York City to pursue a career in apparel design at age 18. She became famous after the debut of her “M.A.B.” or “Morning After Bag” in 2005 and since then has expanded her collection to include accessories, footwear, apparel, and jewelry as well as a men’s line, “Ben Minkoff.” She describes her aesthetic as “Downtown Romantic,” embodying ladylike silhouettes and high quality leather paired with rock-and-roll hardware such as studs, buckles, and chains.
We had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca when her “Road Trip” (#RMRoadTrip) rolled into Saks Fifth Avenue at The Gardens Mall on December 5th for an evening of edgy glamour, cocktails, and the chance to have Rebecca herself sign purchases of her iconic purses. Between greeting fans and the excitement of the #RMRoadTrip scavenger hunt throughout Saks, Rebecca took a few moments to catch up with Palm Beach Lately and chat about social media, fashion, and family:
- What inspires your edgy, rocker-chic designs?
My customers inspire me. I always say that the Rebecca Minkoff girl embraces the “Downtown Romantic”. She’s cool and not fussy with her clothes, and always knows what she wants.
- What tip would you give modern business owners about promoting their brands on social media?
Remain true to yourself. Audiences want to know more about who you are as a brand and what you’re all about- stay true, and you’ll always be interesting.
- Two years ago, you shot one of our favorite features with your then newborn son on the popular site, The Glow. What is life as a mommy like lately?
I absolutely adore being a mother! My son, Luca brings me so much joy. I love watching him grow and learn new things!
- When you leave the house, what item can’t you live without?
A great bag of course! I like to change up the style depending on what my day will look like and where I’m going.
- Please fill in the blank: When in Palm Beach, I must enjoy the water and the sun!
