Island Style Watch: Shop Vintage Fashionista

Palm Beach Lately loves dropping by one of our favorite vintage shops on the island, Fashionista, to scout pieces for upcoming events.  Fashionista shoppers benefit from Palm Beach's finest unloading their closets and filling the store with luxurious, timeless fashions from designers like Chanel, Christian Dior, Hermes, Roberto Cavalli and Valentino.  While we adore all of their pieces, our favorites were the black and cream top by Dolce & Gabbana, black skirt by Escada and red dress by Jean Paul Gaultier. So the next time you are looking for a unique find, don't forget to check out Fashionista!

Inspired Living: Cristiana Shields Jewelry Collection

Cristiana Shields

Photography by Keith Isaac.

Fashion and jewelry have always been Cristiana Shield's passions.  She finds self-expression and joy in costume styling for movies, photo shoots and videos or designing her own jewelry collection, Shields Jewelry.  Each piece is personally hand crafted by Cristiana and comes with a title that was inspired through movies, music or a concert.  Read below to see what inspires Cristiana, her favorite spots in Palm Beach and what she can't live without.

1. Who is your style crush?
Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Tom Ford and Gucci inspire me in fashion and to pursue my dream to someday become a known name like they have become.  My personal crushes are Adam Levine, Bradley Cooper and Chris Pine.

2. What inspired you to create your own line?
Promoting, supporting and working for other designers, such as Ralph Lauren, for so many years, my past jobs and life altering experiences, education and training in massage therapy and other modalities such as Cranial Sacral, Lomi Lomi deep tissue massage and Reiki, and my Fashion Merchandising major.  My dream growing up was to become a stylist for movies and see my name in lights.  Now my dream is to see my jewelry in the movies someday and see Shields Jewelry up in lights.  At 7 years old I had my whole life and career planned out right down to who my perfect soulmate was going to be... 30 years later I realized that God had another better plan for me.  Now I'm just going with the flow, staying consistent and keeping an open mind and heart to see what comes next.  I'm excited for the unknown.

3. What is your favorite Palm Beach spot?
The Breakers beach, the Oriental Garden at the library, the Tropical Fruit Shop (best freshly squeezed juices and smoothies), and The Runway Consignment Boutique that a friend of mine owns on Olive Ave in West Palm Beach (very L.A. boutique, best designer clothes for crazy good prices).

4. When you are not in Palm Beach, where is your favorite place to go?
Cobb Theatre in Downtown PGA (love movies), Broadway plays in NYC and concerts in Miami.

5. What is your "must have" item?
An iPhone 4 with siri (for when I feel lost :), an ipad, an adopted dog named "Lucy" that I saved from the pound, a great girlfriend to have 3 frozen margaritas with occasionally to help solve life's obstacles and a one of a kind piece of jewelry from my Shields Jewelry Collection

Beauty: Tea With Tammy Fender And GIVEAWAY

Palm Beach Lately recently had the pleasure of having tea with Tammy Fender at her spa on Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach.  The building is an old home turned spa, so the outside is quaint and inviting and the inside is light and airy.  We stepped into the crisp, clean entryway and up a staircase into the ethereal spa on the second floor.  We loved the Anthropologie-esque waiting area and enjoyed Tammy's own blend of jasmine, lavender and vanilla tea, as well as healthy bites from Christopher's Kitchen.  Tammy is a natural beauty inside and out, as well as a wealth of knowledge on living a holistic lifestyle.  Watch our short video for a peek inside Tammy's world and be sure to book a treatment for a little piece of heaven!

Bonus: Don't miss our recent interview with Tammy and because she is so sweet, you can enter to win a FREE Tammy Fender Summer Complexion Perfection Travel Kit worth $150!  It features purifying cleansing gel, roman chamomile tonic, capillary strengthening blend, antioxidant creme, intensive repair balm and bulgarian lavender body oil.  To enter, "like" both Palm Beach Lately and Tammy Fender Holistic Skincare on Facebook.  One lucky winner will be picked next Friday, August 3, 2012.  Good luck!

Weekender: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013

Palm Beach Lately enjoyed representing Palm Beach at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013 over the weekend.  We kicked off our quick trip to South Beach with backstage passes to Poko Pano's show at The Raleigh, followed by the invitation-only Vogue/Clarins event at The Webster and a delicious dinner at Mr. Chow in the W South Beach.  Before heading home in the morning, we stopped by Cecconi's in the Soho Beach House for brunch on their gorgeous patio.  Our favorite part?  Meeting the uber-cool owner of The Webster, Laure Heriard Dubreuil.  Her store is fashion genius, and she is a doll to boot!

Last weekend, Beth and I had the pleasure of trying Daniel Boulud's summer pop-up restaurant, Boulud Sud, at The Brazilian Court Hotel & Beach Club.  Daniel Boulud and The Brazilian Court are two of our favorites, so we knew we were in for a treat!  Tucked in the cozy indoor space overlooking the terrace, the temporary restaurant features an eclectic tasting from the Mediterranean region with "bright, bold and sunny flavors".  We enjoyed their strawberry mojito and watermelon specialty drink, a sampling of their small plates, including flatbread, fried artichokes and lemon-saffron linguini with clams, as well as dessert.  It was no surprise that everything was prepared and presented with impeccable taste!

The Mediterranean summer pop-up will be offered on an a la carte menu at dinner only seven days a week from 5:30 to 10:00 pm through September 2, 2012.  Enjoy a four-course prix fixe menu for $35 (beverage, tax and gratuity not included) served at dinner on Saturday and Sunday evenings.  To make your reservation for Boulud Sud, please call 561.655.6060 or visit www.cafeboulud.com.

Bonus: Stay at The Brazilian Court Hotel & Beach Club and enjoy a special hotel dining package for two that includes a four-course Boulud Sud Mediterranean dinner with a glass of rose per person and beautiful accommodations.  The hotel stay and Boulud Sud dinner package are available July 3, 2012 through September 2, 2012, starting at $269 a night* (excluding tax and cost of additional beverages).  For information, please call 561.655.7740 or visit www.thebraziliancourt.com.

* Starting rate per room night plus tax.  Additional beverages and tax on dinner excluded.  Additional nights available without dinner included.  Pricing is subject to season, activity and room type availability.  Based on availability at time of booking.  Dinner reservation time and date subject to availability and is the responsibility of the guest.  Cancellation policy: seven days prior to arrival to avoid one-night charge.  Valid for single/double occupancy.

Meet Catherine Milligan: The Artist Behind The Sketches

Catherine Milligan

Catherine Milligan is an adorable and artistic sweetheart who works for Lilly Pulitzer, a Palm Beach favorite!  We inspired her to create the drawings of the club, heart, spade and diamond that we featured this week.  Read more about her background, career and inspiration below.

1. What is your role at Lilly Pulitzer?
I'm the Assistant Manager at the Palm Beach Gardens store with a concentration in Visual Merchandising.  I've been lucky enough to travel and help open up new Lilly stores like the Breakers, the store in Charlotte, NC, and the new store in Atlanta.

2. Any artistic training or background?
I've been taking art classes since I could hold a pencil in my hand!  In high school I took AP studio art and AP art history while traveling on the weekends to Fashion Institute of Technology for classes.  I thought I wanted to be a fashion designer but quickly realized I lack the patience to sew couture gowns!  Instead, I decided to pursue a degree in Finance with a Business Administration minor, while taking art history and studio art classes to continue my art training.  I wanted to have a job in fashion that would allow me to use both my creativity and my degrees, so here I am!

3. What inspires you?
Hmmm, everything and everyone!  It's a little cliche but it's true.  It depends on what mood I'm in too, whether I want to paint, draw, merchandise, or refurbish furniture!  Fashion has always played a huge part in my life.  Fashion designers amaze me with their ability to constantly reinvent themselves and push the envelope.  Beyond fashion, I'm semi obsessed with Van Gogh and can always find inspiration in his paintings.  I love anything vintage, especially old movies and music with the Rat Pack crew, Ella Fitzgerald, and of course Audrey Hepburn!  That's why I chose to go to Salve Regina University in Newport, RI.  It was like being in the Great Gatsby movie for four years, surrounded by beautiful architecture and amazing people who inspire you daily.

4. Where are you from?
New Jersey

Farewell, Hamburger Heaven... You'll Be Missed

After more than 60 years serving loyal patrons on the island, Hamburger Heaven has sadly closed their doors.  The staple Palm Beach diner, with cozy booths and delicious comfort food, will be dearly missed.  We wish them well and look forward to their relocation plans.
