Weekender: Summer Getaway To New York City

            

You probably noticed that we were out for a few days, and it was with good reason.  One of our favorite cities, New York City, called, so we jetted off for a whirlwind trip to meet with new contacts, catch up with old friends, try new hot spots and squeeze in some shopping.  Beth and I equally love the bustling city and enjoy reminiscing about the summer when we lived there after college, as well as the countless trips since, including my husband's surprise engagement celebration in 2005.  Thanks to Instagram, you can check out the highlights of our trip with captions below.  As you can see, we are totally smitten, again with good reason.

Palm Beach Lately Summer Makeover: Hooked On Melissa

Palm Beach Lately had a blast with our Summer Makeover winner, Melissa Askeland!  She is as cute as a button and a makeover was not necessary, but we enjoyed playing up her best features and spoiling the mommy of one.  Many thanks again to our contributors, Rapunzel's Closet, Sequin, Amanda Parisi, Fonda Lee Beauty for Trish McEvoy and būccan in Palm Beach. Social: Preservation Foundation Of Palm Beach Cocktail Event

Next Wednesday, June 20th, the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach will hold a cocktail party to raise funds at The Blind Monk Wine Bar.  The event will be held from 6 to 8 pm.  With an entrance donation of $20 or more, guests will receive access to wine specials and free drinks.  For more information on memberships, please click here.

Weekender: Palm Beach's Bike Trail

    

To enjoy the coastal outdoors this weekend, Beth and I suggest going for an early morning ride on Palm Beach's bike trail.  Don't have a bike?  Then swing by the Palm Beach Bicycle Trail Shop on Sunrise Avenue to rent single bikes or the cute tandem bike we opted for.  The red and white striped awning provides great shade and makes a stylish statement.  We cruised by Michael McCarty's, the Flagler Museum, the Intracoastal and many gorgeous island homes. The bike shop can help point you in the right direction and after you work up a thirst, stop by one of our favorite watering holes like Nick & Johnnie's, Cucina's or The Sailfish Club.

Living In Paradise: The Paradise Fund's Loy Anderson

Loy Anderson is one of the young, motivated professionals who created the popular Palm Beach-based charity called The Paradise Fund.  Formed to help children across the globe who are impacted by political, environmental, health, educational and social problems, The Paradise Fund believes that every child deserves a paradise.  We couldn't agree more and enjoyed our recent chat with Loy about his charity and one of our favorite events, Paradise Casino. 

1. What words do you live by?

"Done is better than perfect."  It's kind of a cousin saying to "the faintest ink is better than the best memory" blended with the ole "it's the thought that counts."  Done is definitely better than perfect.  Done is done.  I'm sure that's why there's Nike's 'Just do it,' and so many folks say, 'Get'r done.'

2. What can't you live without?

My friends and family.  That's why I'm here!

3. What's new with your charity, The Paradise Fund?

I just returned from Haiti and had the most impactful trip of my life.  In addition to Palm Beach, we're forming chapters of The Paradise Fund in Miami, New York and Los Angeles, and couldn't be more thrilled about our friends getting involved.

4. What do you have in the works for this year's Paradise Casino?

We're looking to have a private pre-event fashion show before casino night.

5. What's the best thing to do on a Palm Beach stay-cation? 

Keep it interesting.  Find new ways to have fun.  Next year we're talking about wearing black tie to the South Florida Fair.  I'm not sure if my tux will be camo or not yet so stay tuned for the high fashion section.

French Living: The French Twist Book Signing

On Monday Beth and I went to the book signing for The French Twist: Twelve Secrets of Decadent Dining and Natural Weight Management at one of our favorite Palm Beach venues, Eau Spa, at The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach.  The author, Carol Cottrill, is a spunky actor-turned-agent-turned-nutritionist who is on a mission to expose the damage and distress that serial dieting causes for millions of women.  Her first book reveals that balancing and enjoying authentic, high-quality food is the key to maintaining a healthy weight.  Order your copy here!
